Artist Statement

I am a ninety-five percent abstract artist. Is it presumptuous to say sometimes I feel I channel Kandinsky, although I would like to think I am original and put my gloss on the text. Unlike Kandinsky, I do not have a theory about musical correlatives. One takes and brings to the work what one will. The intent/intention is in the gesture and in the choices made. The viewer gives/inputs the meaning.

Part of my work includes placing some of my individual works within larger format grids. The grids are both organizing principle and a principle themselves. Created at different times, each individual work relates to the larger works within the grid and yet can and may function on its own. In this it represents human life and human interaction and organization.
